Humanitarian & Charity Work

Global Surgical Healthcare

Five billion people globally do not have access to safe, affordable surgical care when required.  A further 143 million additional surgical procedures are needed in order to reduce mortality and to prevent disability. Every year, 38 million people face catastrophic expenditures in order to access surgical services. We believe surgery should be an integral part of National Health care systems worldwide.

Financial Support

For the above reasons I feel that it is an obligation to both financially support charities in delivering aid and medical care globally to those less fortunate. This is done personally and also with around 10%-20% of my private practice profit helping to fund these organisations.  I also have charity links that I post on this site for donations to be made.

Teaching and Training

Having been privileged to be a mentor and trainer for UK surgical trainees to provide the best care possible, I also take part in teaching for the Hostile Environment Surgical Training Course for surgeons around the world to teach optimal surgical care of trauma patients.

Medical Missions

My most recent Charity Medical mission was to Syria with Action For Humanity in September 2025. This mission involved not only treating trauma within the civilian population, including children and babies, who have suffered from war and internal conflict, but also complex cancer patients. Furthermore, importantly we trained local senior and junior surgeons in optimal surgical techniques to continue serving the population in our absence for the longer term. You can read more about this mission and donate below via the link if you wish. Due to the success of this mission, we plan this to be an on-going venture with a next planned mission in 2026.

Medical Mission to Syria in September 2025

(Our teams worked in Homs, Hama, Damascus, Allepo & Latakia)

I would like to thank you and everyone for your kind donations to make our humanitarian medical mission to Syria such a success.

It's been an extremely hectic week with a team of 42 doctors/surgeons working within at least 5 different hospitals. Our team treated 600 patients over 5 days and performed over 120 surgical operations/procedures. For myself this involved doing complex cancers, trauma surgery and reconstruction with the most basic equipment available, including surgery on children and babies.  Importantly we also spent hundreds of hours of training time for junior and senior doctors/surgeons who have not had adequate training for decades due to war and destruction. It is this training that will continue to help the local population in receiving the right surgical decision making, treatment and long term patient benefits with reduced complications in our absence.

As with many conflict zones, we were shocked with the destruction of healthcare infrastructure that has been deliberately targetted to affect the local civilian population.

We aim to return to Syria in the coming year to continue our work having identified so many more patients requiring treatment, and in the meantime continue to be a voluntary point of contact online and via whatsapp to help local teams make treatment decisions.

I have left my LaunchGood page active to contiune raising funds for our ongoing missions. Please continue to consider donations so we can continue our work.

More information on the mission can be found at Action for Humanity and donation link for myself is
LaunchGood.com/DrHaqueMedicalMission. There will also be a link via my website www.thesurgicalclinic.co.uk with more of my voluntary work and projects detailed in the coming weeks.

We couldn't have managed this without our amazing field teams and YOUR support!

Thanking you once again and may you all be rewarded for your ongoing support.
