Teaching Experience

Royal College of Surgery Lead Unit Training Director/College Tutor for Basildon Hospital: Following developing the education of surgical trainees at Basildon, I was competitively appointed as Lead UTD/College Tutor.

 

Whipps Cross Higher Surgical Course: I have taught national and international candidates attending this internationally recognised course to prepare for the FRCS exit examinations.

 

Educational Program at Basildon & Thurrock University Hospital: After successfully initiating and implementing a teaching program at Basildon Hospital, I regularly oversee, supervise and teach juniors/middle grades on a weekly basis.  I have also implemented and driven forward a monthly research journal club for ongoing departmental education for the surgical department. I feel these are paramount to maintaining BTUHs educational excellence and junior morale.

 

Honorary Clinical Teacher/Lecturer for University College London Medical School:  Formally taught medical, BSc and MSc surgical science students and set-up UCL medical curriculum teaching sessions. Also lectured “Surgery in inflammatory Bowel Disease” for MSc students at the Royal London Hospital & Queen Mary’s University. 

 

Chase Farm & Barnet Hospital Education Program: I setup and taught Foundation, core and registrar trainees regularly on a weekly basis.

 

Medical Student Teaching:  Formally taught UK and US medical students during my surgical speciality training, supervised journal clubs and student presentation sessions, and chaired Surgical Junior Clinical Case sessions on a weekly basis that I setup at the Royal Free & University College London Medical School (Royal Free Campus).

 

Advance Trauma Life Support Instructor and previous ALS and EPLS Instructor

 

President of the UCL Surgical Society & Collaborated with Opportunities in Surgery and Women in Surgical Training (RCS): Driving forward surgical education at UCL (1999-2001) and informing college students about medical careers.

 

Khartoum Charity Hospital, Sudan: On my university elective, I was challenged to educate patients and staff after noticing a high post-operative mortality rate which I felt could have been prevented.  I helped train nursing staff and produced patient information posters to teach them how to avoid post-operative complications.

 

Royal Army Medical Corps 256 Field Hospital: Previously involved in teaching BLS, first aid and basic inter-personal, tactical and professional skills. (Ex-Territorial Army).
